The Mirror Pavilion

Fed up with frequent graffiti, a Danish architectural firm has come up with a novel way of protecting a playground from vandalism. The mirror pavilion in Copenhagen’s Central Park, Denmark, features an eye-catching array of different mirrors designed to distort the building’s surroundings. The center, used by visiting kindergarten classes, was plagued by graffiti and town hall officials turned to architects MLRP after failing to stop the damage. Thanks to clever use of distorted mirrors, curved mirror doors and invisible entrances, the building reflects the parks surrounding gardens and can even seem to disappear entirely as a result of the optical effect.” w/ photos

Interactive Punching Bag

“We built this interactive punching bag as a summer project before uni. We added lights, sounds and sensors to a conventional punching bag. It’s programmable, so we can design games or experiment with stimulus and feedback in HCI.” — MotivationalDinosaur

Snow Monsters Of Japan

Every year, during the cold winter months, snow monsters make their appearance on the snow covered slopes of Japan’s northern prefectures. But instead of running out of their way, tourists flock to these places to admire their natural beauty. Every one of these juhyou monsters is uniquely shaped by Mother Nature, who uses strong winds as her tools and thick layers of snow and ice as art mediums.” w/ photos

World’s Largest Scrabble Game

Spanning over 49′ sq, nearly 5x the size of the original, this is the world’s largest wall-mounted Scrabble game. One of only nine in existence, it is handmade by John Kahn, renowned mixed media artist and creator of colossal pop art. Meticulously constructed from Russian birch plywood, the 3/4″-deep back board is overlaid with the classic purple-hued background of the original game, laminated with a .023-gauge galvanized steel sheet, and covered by a heavy vinyl print of the playing board which is protected by a satin laminate. Bordered by a 3/4″ x 2 1/2″ birch frame that wraps from the front to the back, the board attaches to a wall with included hardware. The two 6′ H x 5 5/8″ W x 7″ D birch tile racks are grooved and lined with felt, each accepting 50 of the included 100 tiles. Made from a 3/8″ x 5/16″ rare earth magnet sandwiched between two pieces of birch plywood, each 4 3/8″ sq. x 3/8″ thick tile’s letter is sandblasted to a depth of 1/64″, lacquered in black, sanded, and clear-coated to a finish that will last for generations.” w/ photo

Top 14 Impressive Monologues In Movie History

“To someone like myself, who couldn’t act even if Hitler’s death depended on it, I really have no idea what goes into a monologue – however I do know what comes out of a good one. So when I judge the talent of these I’m really just judging how effective they seemed to be, not necessarily the amount of artistic effort that was put into it. Simply put, these are some terrific monologues.” w/ videos
