Modified Social Benches

“If you live in the Belgian coastal village of De Haan and find yourself in need of a rest some recent additions to the town’s provision of benches might make you lift an eyebrow before you sit yourself down. They add a whole new dimension to the phrase I didn’t know where to put myself. The benches are not, as you may well suspect, the latest gift of a whacked out municipality to an unsuspecting public, however. They do, though, serve as real benches and are not safely ensconced in an art gallery. These crazy benches are artist Jeppe Hein’s creations and he wants you to sit on them.” w/ photos

Incredible Sunbeams

Sunbeams are everywhere – yet when they are caught on camera they are often unwanted additions to a photograph. They cut swathes through the picture, chopping off heads and obscuring detail in a burst of light. However, when they are deliberately captured the results can be nothing short of magical. Sunbeams have a rather more scientific name – and that is crepuscular rays. This is because of the time of day at which they are most likely to occur – those around dawn and dusk. In photography these times are often referred to as The Golden Hour.” w/ photos

World’s Loudest Bicycle Horn

“City cyclists who battle to get themselves noticed on the roads can now buy the ultimate deterrent against inattentive truck drivers; a bicycle equipped with a horn that is louder than Concorde. At close quarters the Hornster bicycle emits 178 decibels; a level of sound so powerful that if used in anger it could deafen any motorist who veered too close. The Hornster bicycle was developed by the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) to highlight the dangers that cyclists face on city roads… The triple air horn fitted to the bicycle is an Airchime KH3A from an American locomotive, which has been adapted to run off a scuba diving cylinder. The Hornster is so powerful that at a distance of 100ft it is far louder than a standard truck horn and more than noisy enough for a cyclist to make themselves heard above the din of the urban jungle.” w/ photos + video

Top 25 N64 Games Of All Time

“Last week, Dorkly users voted to elect the greatest N64 game of all time. The competition was tough. Palms were decimated by frantic joystick spinning, countless Capri-Suns were consumed, and Glover was left with only three fingers. Alas, the time has come to announce the games you picked as the console’s best. Out of a pool of 118 titles, here are the top 25.” w/ photos
