World’s Most Realistic-Looking Human Doll

21-year-old Valeria Lukyanova is an internet sensation in her home country of Russia. Her popularity stems from the fact that she might be the closest anyone’s ever come to looking like a real live Barbie Doll. Valeria looks very unreal, almost plastic. Her face is expressionless, and her body proportions are quite abnormal. It’s highly unusual to find a woman with a naturally tiny waist, a huge chest and plasticy-looking blond hair. Many speculate that Valeria is either a product of plastic surgery, or her photographs have been doctored by photoshop. The girl has no qualms about discussing her looks though, and refers to herself as the most popular woman on the Russian-language Internet, on her blog.” w/ photos + videos

Tanorexic Action Figure

A Connecticut novelty company is selling a ‘tanorexic’ action figure based on a deeply tanned New Jersey mother accused of causing skin burns to her young daughter in a tanning booth. Patricia Krentcil has said she loves tanning but wouldn’t — and didn’t — take her then-5-year-old into a tanning booth. Krentcil pleaded not guilty last week to a child endangerment charge. She says her daughter got sunburned outdoors. The president of Oxford-based HeroBuilders says everyone has friends into heavy tanning. Emil Vicale says, ‘We thought it was a funny thing to do.” w/ photos

How Oil Prices Affect The Economy

“Why are oil prices rising and costs going through the roof? Seems like every time the economy starts to get stronger, oil prices go way up, and then the economy crashes again. In his book The Third Industrial Revolution, Jeremy Rifkin reveals the truth about the tie between our economy’s health and gas prices. Epipheo thought we’d help spread the word about why energy, power, and gasoline can cost so much money and be so expensive.”

Water Wars Game

“If you enjoy laser tag, but hate the idea of having to dress up like a space man and run around in the dark, firing lasers at people you barely know? Luckily, there is an alternative…! Our kit contains two water pistols, and two vests – complete with printed targets which will turn red wherever they come in contact with water. The vests are printed with special ink which turns red when it gets wet, once one shirt has a completely red circle it’s game over! Leave the vests to dry (and turn back to white) then play all over again! Adults only! Do not play in public, in the rain, or use this game to scare people.” w/ photo

Top 10 People Whose Warnings Went Unheeded

“In Greek mythology, Cassandra was the daughter of the King of Troy. She was so beautiful that the God Apollo granted her the gift of seeing the future, prophecy. When Cassandra spurned Apollo’s love, he put a curse on her – that no one would believe any of her predictions. Cassandra was thus an epic and tragic figure – granted a powerful ability, yet powerless to use it. Throughout history there have been many Cassandra-type figures, people who predicted the coming of terrible tragedies and disasters, but whose warnings were ignored. These people were not gods and were not using special powers of prophecy. They were people who had a deep understanding of the realities of a situation and tried to warn others. In each case, others failed to listen to their warnings, and tragedies that might have been averted were not. Here are ten examples of people who tried to warn others, but whose warnings went unheeded.” w/ photos
