Star Wars Coffee Table

This mixed media custom coffee table was made from reworked vintage printing press trays and a pair of vintage steel dock pallets. The interior display area is populated with a broad survey of Storm Troopers, Clone Troopers and other Imperial officers and droids from the various eras of Star Wars mythology. The pallets have been left rusted and all woodwork has been kept rough in keeping with the industrial style of the piece and are bound together with black steel wire. For a more modern look the pallets/base could be ground to a shiny steel finish depending on environment. The table top is 3/8″ thick tempered glass and can be easily removed to rearrange the display area below. The table is very heavy (close to 100lbs) due to the steel pallets but felt sliders have been mounted on the bottom for easy movement on hard floors.” w/ photos

Japanese Slimming Goggles?

This latest creation might be a bit hard to swallow, literally, because it makes food look 50% bigger. Professor Michitaka Hirose and his team of researchers at Tokyo University have created a pair of special goggles that can be set to make food look bigger or smaller, while keeping your hands and surroundings at their original sizes. This supposedly tricks you into eating less and ultimately helps you shed some of that extra weight.” w/ photos

Talented Dog Paints Masterpieces

“Curmudgeons who are skeptical about whether such procedures amount to ‘painting,’ barely rate a shrug from Stone. ‘If people are skeptical,’ she said, ‘well then it’s their loss because they’re missing out on a beautiful thing.’ That beautiful thing emerges every time Piper hears a rustle or a crinkle from Stone’s studio. The dog rushes into the studio and won’t budge until Stone slips the handle of a freshly paint-doused brush into her mouth. A few minutes later, another colorful ‘painting’ is hung on a drying line. Along the way, Stone, on a whim, decided to post one of Piper’s pieces on Facebook. It sold within a week and a few months later, Stone quit counting Piper’s sales after they passed the fifty mark. ‘She has over, I think, 2,700 fans now on Facebook,’ Stone said. ‘She has her own business card, e-mail, website.’ Now Piper isn’t exactly getting rich. But she is making enough money to cover her own medical bills and to pay for things like her Web site and PayPal fees.” w/ photos + video

Top 10 Dog Breeds For Dog Lovers With Allergies

“Ever since President Obama’s quest for a hypoallergenic dog to become part of the White House family due to his daughter’s dog allergies, the amount of pet owners seeking ‘hypoallergenic’ dog breeds has about skyrocketed. While no dog is purely hypoallergenic, certain breeds have more predictable and consistent non-shedding coats. Typically a dog sheds its skin every 3-4 days while some breeds shed their skin every 21 days. Dogs that do not shed much or as often have shown to produce less dander, which makes them more tolerable for those with allergies. [Here] are ten dog breeds that are best for dog lovers suffering from allergies. These breeds may ease the sneezing, itchy eyes and other allergic reactions to man’s best friend.” w/ photos
