World’s Largest Stir-Fry

It wasn’t just a record, it was delicious and nutritious. Staff and students at the University of Massachusetts celebrated the start of the new semester by making the world’s largest stir-fry. Using a custom-built, 14-foot frying pan, the 4,010-pound meal included 800 pounds of chicken, 500 pounds of onions, 400 pounds of carrots, 300 pounds of broccoli as well as peppers, green beans, bok choy, peanuts, basil and garlic and was cooked in 50 pounds of canola oil. Ken Toong, executive director of Auxiliary Enterprises at UMass-Amherst, says the record stressed sustainability and promoting healthy eating as many of the vegetables were grown at a student-run farm.” w/ photo + video

Fried Bubblegum?

In 2010, it was all about the fried beer. The year before that, it was fried butter. Could this year be bubblegum pink? Justin Martinez is going pink inside the Centennial Building at Fair Park. “It almost has that blowup effect where it looks like someone is blowing a bubble,” he said while pulling out a pink ball from his fryer. It’s actually a marshmallow. “What we do is, we infuse the marshmallow with bubblegum extract, and that’s where it gets the flavor,” Martinez said. After that, it’s dipped into some pink batter and then the fryer. “And then with a little bit of blue icing on top and then those Chiclets, it gives it a nice appeal,” Martinez said. He said he is hoping his Fried Bubblegum will win top honors at this year’s Big Tex Choice Awards.” w/ video

Animal Body Paint

A photographer has created a bizarre exhibit featuring naked models being covered with body paint to look just like wild animals. Lennette Newell’s daring pictures show models posing covered in paint as zebras, elephants, baboons and cheetahs next to their real life counterparts. The San Francisco photographer’s display, called ‘Anti-Human’ was devised out of Lennette’s childhood desire to become one of the animals her father used to treat as a vet. Her strikingly colourful set aims to mark the difference between humans and wild animals. All of Lennette’s ‘Anti-Human’ collection pictures were taken in Los Angeles, California.” w/ photos

Top 10 Best Movie Prequels Of All Time

“It’s a generally accepted fact that there are very few good prequels; George Lucas certainly cemented it as a truism in the popular consciousness… In fairness, it is hard to create a compelling story when the audience already knows the ending, and it’s difficult to explain the origins of characters who the audience already know without flattening them and making them less interesting. But while there have been some utter disasters — The Phantom Menace, Hannibal Rising, the list goes on — there have been a handful of others which have been well worth watching. Here we list 10 of the best movie prequels of all time.” w/ photos
