BMW Made From Bricks

“A Chinese artist wants $106,000 for a BMW car that handles like a brick… as it’s made out of hundreds of them. Dai Geng spent more than a year cementing the brick blocks together which he then carved into a model of a sporty BMW Z4, which can exceed speeds of 150mph. Except for the windows, everything is made from brick, even the hinges that allow the door to open and close just like metal ones. Mr. Dai even managed to make brick hinges so the doors can open and close. The car has been on display at Shenzheng, in Guangdong province, in southeastern China, and has now has been put up for sale. Mr. Dai said: ‘Only the windows are not made of bricks. Everything else including the tyres, the steering wheel, the exhaust pipe and trimmings are made of brick.” w/ photos

The Chopstick Tree

“Single use-chopsticks are a notable waste issue in China – roughly 100 trees a day must be felled to create the little, wooden eating utensils. In response to the atrocities being subjected to these innocent trees, the China Environmental Protection Foundation has assembled the ghostly remains of meals past into a full-sized chopstick tree. An impressive sculpture standing beautiful and tall, this was actually far from the message they hoped to convey. So what did they do to get their point across? They broke it and handed out reusable chopstick sets and statistics near the slain tree.” w/ photos
Frizzy Gorrilas

“These wild haired primates prove that being a real life gorilla in the mist can wreak havoc with your hairdo. Looking in desperate need of some frizz-ease, the grizzled gorillas have the local weather to thank for their curly look. Each morning the damp forested slopes of the volcanic Virunga Mountains, along the northern border of Rwanda in the East Africa, are blanketed in mist. This event, and the gorillas who call the slopes home, became famous thanks to gorilla expert Dian Fossey’s book and the subsequent film ‘Gorillas in the Mist’. When the haze eventually burns off it leaves everything coated in a fine layer of water – resulting in the gorillas’ curly coiffures.” w/ photos
