LL Bean Bootmobile

Batman has the Batmobile, Oscar Meyer has the Weinermobile — it only makes sense that L.L. Bean is bringing us the Bootmobile. The Maine-based outdoor outfitter is marking their centennial this year, and they’re celebrating by driving a giant boot-shaped truck through Times Square and lacing — er, racing — it through the streets of Manhattan. From the trademark windows, green gas cap and tiny wheels, the Bootmobile appears to be cobbled together from a diesel Ford F-250 pickup. In true Yankee fashion, it’s wearing all-terrain tires, sports a Maine license plate and is missing a hubcap. It also has no trunk to speak of, which is sure to confuse the heck out of British tourists.” w/ photos

Concrete Balls Used To Stop Roof Train Riders

“Indonesia has gone to imaginative extremes to try and stop commuters from illegally riding on the roofs of train – from hosing them down with red paint to threatening them with dogs. But now authorities have developed an intimidating and possibly deadly new tactic – suspending rows of grapefruit-sized concrete balls to rake over the top of trains. They hope the balls – which would deliver serious blows to the head if they didn’t knock a person off the roof of a train – will be enough to deter train surfers.” w/ photos

Baby Vs. Daddy

“I discovered Charlotte’s brain melted at the motorboat frequency… so we began using it whenever she got fussy. It’s a good trick that’s already starting to lose effectiveness, but was incredibly potent when we shot this quick video.” — FatherhoodIs

Top 10 Major Movie Events That Were Happy Accidents

“Academic books and essays about movies use lofty phrases and multi-layered interpretations to make the fact the authors have watched movies too many times seem like an insightful and meaningful practice. Anyone who has spent much time on a movie set realizes that’s usually giving filmmakers a bit too much credit. In fact, as we’ll be able to see with today’s list, many important moments brought to us by movies have been the result of blind luck or unintended consequences.” w/ photos
