Woman Finds Frog In Wine Bottle

“A woman in the UK is reportedly suing supermarket giant Asda after she allegedly found a frog in a bottle of wine purchased at one of its stores. Isolde Beesley of Leicestershire said the small frog fell out of a bottle of Moscatel de Valencia Spanish wine as she poured a glass at a family celebration. She claims to have suffered from stomach pains ever since the incident, which occurred on December 26th 2009, and as such is pursuing a claim for compensation, reports Decanter magazine. At the time, Asda removed the wine from its shelves while it conducted an investigation. Ms Beesley’s lawyer, Michael Connor of TPS Solicitors, said that Asda was ‘under a duty by virtue of the Sale of Goods Act to make sure the wine was fit to drink’. He added that the fact the wine apparently contained a dead frog clearly made it unfit for consumption.” w/ photo

“A man accused of shooting at U.S. marshals waived extradition to Clark County last Monday morning, but he probably won’t be going there anytime soon. Adam Berndt is set to go to trial next month for the case in Multnomah County. The 23-year-old pleaded not guilty to attempted murder after he opened fire on U.S. marshals trying to arrest him in northeast Portland, investigators said. A U.S. marshal returned fire and shot Berndt multiple times, authorities said, but no officers or bystanders were injured. Berndt remained in critical condition for nearly a month after the incident, according to the U.S. Marshals Office.” w/ photo

At the new location of Manhattan coffeeshop D’Espresso, a prevalence of books also nods to its unique location: It’s located just a block from the New York Public Library. But that wasn’t enough for designer Anurag Nema and his team at nemaworkshop. They took the idea of a library and flipped it, quite literally, on its side — sure, it’s a design gimmick, but also one that makes good business sense and just might become a recognizable branding signature. The books are actually tiles printed with sepia-toned photos of bookshelves at a local travel bookstore that ring the room, including the floor, walls and ceiling. In addition to painting unusual surfaces with intriguing patterns — whoa, you’re standing on books! — it gives an Alice in Wonderland-esque sense that the room has been suddenly upended.” w/ photos + video
