“What is a lonely girl geek to do on the 45th anniversary of one of her all time favorite shows? Make cute cookies that everyone else will love, so that they’ll tolerate the Star Trek marathon that’s ’bout to play on Netflix Watch Instantly all day long. That’s what… Seriously, I’m so thrilled with these little boogers. I don’t want to eat them. I want to make a movie with them. A super cute, awesomely geeky, and totally campy cookie version of Star Trek. I even made some extra redshirts that can die by violent devouring.” w/ photos
“Whilst working on the film I shot this series of time-lapses with the help of students. Instead of just leaving the camera to click away at set intervals, we manually took a frame in synch with the frames Barry was taking as he animated, showing the puppet moving at his intended 25fps, almost!” — Joe Clarke

“Nothing marks the presence of humans better than a massive hole in the ground. Boring deep into the Earth for the love of riches and resources, we humans dig deep and often. In the town of Mirny in Eastern Siberia, lies the largest open pit diamond mine in the world. It’s also the second largest excavated hole in the world, second only to the Bingham Canyon Mine in Salt Lake City, Utah. Check out the incredible images below with facts littered throughout. Mir Mine, also called Mirny Mine, is the second largest excavated hole in the world. It is 1,722 ft deep and 3,900 ft wide. The hole is so big that even the airspace above the mine was closed to helicopters as there were several incidents of them being sucked in by the downward air flow.” w/ photos

“A movie can go wrong at just about any point in production, but there’s no error quite as noticeable as bad casting. The dialogue, costumes, and atmosphere can totally line up, but if you’ve got the wrong person in a key role, the magic just isn’t there. Sometimes it’s just a little off — George Clooney was a pretty awkward Batman, but then, Batman & Robin had much bigger problems — but other times it’s enough to totally derail every scene in which the miscast actor appears, or even sink the entire movie. These are the roles that made the biggest mistakes, lost the biggest gambles, and proved just how awful things can get.” w/ videos
