Tanks That Look Like Cows?

“The patented system — called Adaptiv — uses a matrix of hexagonal ‘pixels’ that can change their temperature very rapidly. On-board cameras sweep the area to pick up the background scenery and display that infra-red signature on the vehicle. This allows even moving tanks to be effectively invisible in the infra-red spectrum, or mimic other objects. ‘The tank skin essentially becomes a big infra red TV,’ BAE Head of External Communications Mike Sweeney told Wired.co.uk. ‘You can display anything you want on it — including a cow — while the rest of the vehicle blends into the background.’ The current system works in the infra-red spectrum, which could hide vehicles from heat-seeking missiles, drones and heat-sensitive goggles. However, BAE Systems engineers have combined the pixels with other technologies to provide camouflage in other parts of the electro-magnetic spectrum.” w/ photo

Driver Slides Under Bus To Avoid Driving Fine

“A bus driver in China caused major congestion after he hid himself under his own vehicle to avoid being given a fine by police. The man was stopped in Zhongshan, in China’s Guangdong province, after he was caught speeding through a red light and carelessly switching lanes. In a desperate attempt to escape being given a ticket, the driver slid past the officers and hid underneath his parked bus. This, in turn, forced the police to spend time getting the man out from under the low-riding bus – as impatient motorists sat in ever-increasing traffic jams around the junction. After failed attempts to talk the man out, the police called the fire brigade to tow the bus, but the threat only increased the unnamed man’s resolve as he crawled along in time with the moving vehicle.” w/ photo
Stolen Parrot Helps To Catch Thief

“A bird-brained crook was arrested after a parrot he stole turned into a police informer. Burglar Hu Feng sold the creature to a pet shop, which was later visited by the bird’s distraught owner. When the parrot saw its master, it ‘shouted out’ and the thief’s name and address were handed over by shop staff to police. The bird’s owner Wang Lu, from Beijing, said: ‘The shop owner hadn’t been able to make the bird talk but as soon as he saw me he wouldn’t stop. ‘He even did impressions of the geese on our farm.’ Police quickly located the burglar and arrested him for the theft while the happy relationship between parrot and its relieved owner resumed.” w/ photo
