“Submerged on the ocean floor, these SEAcret sculptures are causing quite a stir. The three new works by British sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor were deployed only last week, 650 feet off the shore of Punta Nizuc, Cancun, Mexico. While ‘The Listener’ portrays a lone figure assembled entirely from casts of the ears of local school children, ‘The Phoenix’ is a female form, complete with fan coral, and ‘The Last Supper’ is a set dining table carved from rock. Jason hopes the works, which are fixed 13 feet from the surface in an area covered by the national park, will draw snorkelers away from the natural reefs nearby, allowing them to regenerate.” — barcroftmedia
