“A quiet ranch just south of Hamilton is the classroom for horses helping humans. They may not be your typical therapists, but Becky Laugel and Larry Jones assist their clients with the help of horses. Laugel owns and operates Haven’s Horses, an Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) program and Jones is an equine specialist. EAP is designed to help with behavioral issues, depression, anxiety, family or relationship problems, divorce, blended families, grief, loss and more. Clients are able to learn how to deal with different situations based on their needs. For example, one girl is working with Laugel on her anxiety issues. Her mother said in the past few months of working in the arena, her daughter has improved in schoolwork, home life, peer relationships, problem solving skills, and anxiety. ‘It’s been a remarkable experience,’ she said. Her daughter said that before she was doing EAP she would have ranked her anxiety at 1, but now she would rate it at an 8. She said, ‘I wasn’t able to control my anxiety before I learned these things.” w/ photo
