One of those traits is the ability to generate light with an internal chemical reaction. These small (1/2″ long) worm-like creatures were found in the mountains near Santa Clarita, CA and appear to be the California Pink Glowworm, (Microphotus angustus – (thanks to xKmotx for the ID!) a female beetle of the Lampyridae family, which also includes the well-known Firefly.” — jcmegabyte
