Four-Legged Chicken

A four-legged chicken born in a Jerusalem slaughter house has started a religious debate regarding its kosher label, which can only be determined once it is slaughtered, according to local media. The bird, hatched in the ultra orthodox Jerusalem neighbourhood of Mea Shearim, drew crowds of curious onlookers to the slaughter house, the Internet news agency NTN24 reported. The twelve-toed chicken awaited its fate in a cage on the floor of the Kroish family’s slaughter house, waiting for local rabbis to decide whether or not the animal was kosher. “I’ve seen three twice, four is a little strange,” said Yoel Kroish, the owner of the slaughter house, in the NTN24 report.” w/ photos

Top 10 Largest Impact Structures On Earth

“There are hundreds of impact craters found around the world, but less than 50 that are considered Large (over 20km in diameter). As an example, one of the most well-known and best preserved craters is Barringer crater in Arizona (35°2′N 111°1′W), which is just over 1km in diameter, and was created by a nickle-iron meteor, which was about 54yards. This is a minuscule size compared to the large craters of the world, and in this list you can read up on the very biggest of the big. I have included coordinates, so feel free to follow along on Google earth. Don’t be disappointed if you do not see the full effect of the crater on Google earth, as most of these large craters have eroded away, and can only be seen through density scanners and specialized photos.” w/ photos

Who Invented The World’s First Car?

Who invented the first car? If we’re talking about the first modern automobile, then it’s Karl Benz in 1886. But long before him, there were strange forerunners to the today’s cars, including toys for emperors, steam-powered artillery carriers, and clanking, creaking British buses. Humans have possessed knowledge of the wheel for several thousand years, and we’ve been using animals as a source of transportation for nearly that long. So, in some sense, the earliest forerunners of the car date back to the earliest mists of our prehistory. But perhaps a more useful way of thinking of the car is anything that could reasonably be called an “automobile” – in other words, any vehicle capable of propelling itself. In that case, we’re at most talking about 439 years of car history.” w/ photos

Singapore Supertrees

Towering in front of tall skyscrapers, these enormous tree appear to be thriving in the middle of the city. But the vast woodland in Singapore is actually entirely manmade, stretching up to 164ft into the sky. The imposing trees have colossal concrete trunks weighing hundreds of tonnes. While thousands of thick wire rods have been used to create artificial branches and canopies. The incredible installation, which is still being built, was created as a national landmark as the island looks to create a vast green space in its Marina South district that will become the ‘botanical capital of the world’. But the towering supertrees will be hard to miss for the thousands of people expected to descend on the recreation area.” w/ photos
